UEFA – Protecting Fans everywhere  Nowhere.

UEFA have decided that the Champions League final is going to stay in Rome, after yet another attack on a fan’s life last week. Is it me, or does that sound absolutely ludicrous? After the violence following the Roma/Arsenal tie, there were major doubts about whether Rome was a safe venue in which to hold the final. But, do not fear anything… because good old UEFA say it’s okay.

Italian supporters ambushed an Arsenal bus, and after slinging a burning flare inside the vehicle, one Arsenal fan was stabbed. This was not a one-off event.

Elsewhere, two other Englishmen were treated for head injuries as they tried to leave the stadium.
Shocked? You really shouldn’t be.

In Turin, the day before the Arsenal game, two Chelsea fans were stabbed. Eight years ago in Rome, 14 Liverpool fans were stabbed, whilst in 2006, 3 Middlesbrough fans were victims of a knife attack in a bar as a result of the actions of the infamous Ultras. The next season, 16 Manchester City fans were stabbed.
In fact, Arsenal were so worried about the safety of their fans that they sent emergency telephone numbers by text message to every fan who went out to Rome, and this still happened.

And UEFA chose this city to host the Champions League final? What a bleeding joke. It is a complete disgrace. Well done UEFA. Another event is right royally screwed up thanks to the game’s governing body.
But, why can’t the game be moved? Here is the official reasoning, courtesy of UEFA themselves:
‘Moving to another place would probably put the arrangements in danger. It would be less safe.’

What a load of rubbish. We are in the middle of March, and there are at least two whole months before the final, and you’re telling me that two months isn’t enough time? Now, here is what UEFA really meant:

We can’t move the game because we have already booked the best hotels, restaurants and means of transport for ourselves and our associates. We have our security sorted out so why should we worry? Ruin our stay in Rome? You must be joking.

Well done UEFA. You muppets.

Mourinho the Man?

Is Mourinho the man to take over when Fergie retires? Not a chance in hell.
Mourinho, the self-appointed special one cannot do the job. Why? Isn’t it obvious? Mourinho needs to be the centre of attention, and will that ever happen at Old Trafford?

Manchester United is about giving youth a chance, and about playing fast, free flowing football. When was the last time you said that about any club where Jose was in charge?

Fergie knows this. Sure, he respects Mourinho, but Fergie will know that Mourinho is not the right man for the job.
When Sir Alex gives up, they should look no further than Martin O’Neill or David Moyes. Both have taken purely average clubs and turned them into ‘the best of the rest´ in the Premier League. They both have a reputation for allowing youth to develop, both are tactically aware and both are fantastic man managers. O’Neill has been brilliant at not only our neighbours, but also at Leicester. He is most definitely not a flash in the pan.
Moyes has turned Everton, an unfashionable club, into a team who have come the closest to breaking into the Big 4. In a world of money, money…and more money, Moyes has constantly achieved success.

Sir Alex is a sensational manager…and possibly the greatest ever, and he himself will know what United need when he calls it a day. The Special Club do not need the Special One.

Success Going to Your Head?

Imagine this:
Your team is an unfashionable side who have enjoyed very little success over the past decade. You are in the top 5 teams in the land. You average nearly 2 points a game. Your away form is fantastic (10 wins out of 14) and you have a fantastic chance of getting into the UEFA Champions League, let alone the Europa League (the UEFA Cup). You lose a game at home against a team in decent form. Do you boo?

Villa fans most certainly think so.  They decided that booing was the way to go after seeing their side lose 2-1 to Spurs at home.

Fickle? Don’t get me started.

The Best?

“Go on then, who’s the best player in the world?”

It is one of those age-old questions where no-one is right, and everyone has a differing opinion. But who is the best?
It depends, who is the best at what?

If you want the most skilful player, look no further than Lionel Messi. If you want the player who can score and create more than anyone else, then please step forward Mr Cristiano Ronaldo. But if you want the best overall player, surely the answer is obvious?

Here is what I define the best player in the world as:
He is the kind of player who can take a game by the scruff of the neck. He is the kind of player who can inspire thousands everywhere. He is the kind of player who can create something out of nothing. He can attack, he can defend, and he can control a game. He is the heartbeat of his side, and he is the main man.
Step forward, Mr Steven Gerrard.

Why I Never…

Liverpool smash Madrid 4-0 in midweek, then Madrid go and smash 5 past their opponents in La Liga…I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.
