How it’s all going to go horribly wrong

Apr 23rd, 2009 | By | Category: Aylesburyblue Articles, Blues News

Since the Burnley game some people on the forum have been talking about promotion as if it is a foregone conclusion.  I’m getting a bit concerned that we’re going to jinx it so I thought I would redress the balance.

This is what’s going to happen.

Cardiff and Sheffield United will win their games on Saturday afternoon but we won’t worry about that as one win and we will be up.  The game will kick off in front of our largest crowd of the season, a sea of blue with clapperboards at the ready.  The atmosphere dampens slightly as the first half ends scoreless.  Shortly after half time Preston get a corner and poor marking allows Sean St Ledger to score.  Blues then throw everything at them but for all their huff and puff they can’t put the ball in the net.  In injury time a long clearance reaches Neil Mellor who outpaces Jaidi (Well it’s not difficult is it?) and scores.  Larsson gets sent off for two yellows.  The first is for dissent and s0 is the second.  The game finishes Blues 0 Preston 2.

Reading win on Monday night meaning that all four sides can still be promoted.  Sheffield United romp to an early 3-0 lead as Neil Warnock plays an “experimental” team that includes a number of academy players and the club mascot at left back.  Cardiff are also winning at half time but Blues and Reading are stuck at 0-0.  The scores remain the same in the second halves until the last minute when Stephen Hunt gets so annoyed at being asked where his caravan is by the away fans that he fires in a 30 yard shot into the top corner.  Sheffield United also get a late goal as Warnock himself makes a substitute appearance and scores an own goal.

Blues finish 5th and after drawing the first leg at St Andrews we lose the second leg in the last game ever to be played at Ninian Park.  Blues fans locked in after the game are only released when the bulldozers turn up three weeks later.

The next season we are relegated to League One where in attempt to get the crowds up from an average of 6000 the board decide to re-sign great players of the past including most of the 2002-03 squad.  This is a particular surprise to Paul Devlin who had only turned up at St Andrews to attend Jasper Carrot’s charity dinner.

and we never do get a big screen….

That should do it.

Thanks for that. It’s good to know that I’m not the only one who gets nervous when Blues’ fans start talking about ‘when we get promoted”.

  2. Mark says:

Absolutely I dont think it will be that disastrous but I get confused when fans tell me I am negative about it. I have seen too many heartbreaks in my 21 years as a regular attender. Whats more concerning is we dont win many in front of the tv cameras and even more so how often do we win 2 tv games in a row.

If we give the same passion and application as the Wolves game then I wont have many complaints about whatever happens.

Preston will be tough anyone who thinks they wont are deluded.

  3. Mark says:

Funny… I had it exactly the same, except that we dont draw the first leg of the playoff, but lose it 4-0 at home after re-appointing TF before the playoffs.

I just pray that we are both wrong, but its a pessimistic life being a bluenose.

Had me laughing out loud Mike – superb!!

    Hope it’s not true :-(

  5. moorsman says:

Swansea and sheffield will draw ,leaving blues a point to go up.

We will win the game by one goal.

preston are only where they are because of a brilliant home record.

Your really gonna worry now-a win on Saturday makes it 3 TV wins in a row!

When was the last time we did that?

  7. Pete Cresswell says:

Great stuff Mike. But of course you’re only joking aren’t you…………………………………

I SAID, OF COURSE YOU’RE ONLY JOKING AREN’T YOU?

  8. org says:

Do you want me to turn up for the match, thus guaranteeing a goaless match?

  9. John Baker says:

Wow!, that’s uncanny . . . except for one small point.

It’ll be 10 days before the bulldozers show up at Ninian Park, not 3 weeks.

  10. MJD says:

Want will happen on Saturday is …

    Burnley will win at Southampton
    Cardiff wont lose against Ipswich

So by 5:20pm Preston will know they have no chance of making the play-offs (unless they can score 21 goals more than Reading in 2 games !) and we will beat them.

Sheffield have a distinct disadvantage as Swansea will still think they can make the play-offs at 3pm and will get at least a point – Sheffield have shown in the last 2 games they do not have the bottle when the pressure is on…

We do and will win despite only needing a draw by 5:20pm
