Manchester United 1 Birmingham City 0

Not too bad I thought.  Obviously we would have preferred to have snatched a point but the overall performance, especially in the second half, gives us lots of positives to take to the Portsmouth game.  Considering we were playing with what was far from our first choice defence the result could have been a lot worse.  The full backs got caught out a few times but I thought Roger Johnson was immense and looks a really good signing.

I’m glad that we had a bit of a go as well and created a number of chances.  It was good to see Benitez come on and my first impression of him was pretty good.  He beat the offside trap brilliantly and showed good pace.  He was unfortunate that Foster made a good save to deny him.  I can’t really fault any of the players but as I said before these games are bonuses, we need them to perform in our next two games so we can get some points on the board.

As for United I though that Rooney was excellent but most of the others were far from their best.  On this evidence Valencia is far from being a replacement for Ronaldo.  They were nowhere near as threatening after Nani went off.

What does everyone else make of the game?
