The Takeover
Aug 21st, 2009 | By Aylesburyblue | Category: Blues NewsLooks like it’s really going to happen this time. The statement from Grandtop suggests that they have the club’s best interests at heart and I think it’s a good sign that they want to keep Karren Brady involved.
What are your initial thoughts? Is this a good thing or are you nervous about this? Will you miss David Sullivan?

With what happened the last time which really rocked the boat, it is a bit worrying.
But hopefully these people do have the clubs best interests at heart and we will have to give them a chance.
They will make mistake no doubt, but hopefully nothing serious and that they learn from them – quickly!
It does cerntainly look as if this buyout will go ahead. I am not sure about this guy, but he is saying the right things at the moment. I also agree that keeping Karen Brady would be a good move, she has proven over the years that Birmingham City matters to her and it would also good for the continuity of the club. I just hope that if it is going to happen, it happens quickly and with as little upset as possible.
If it does go through then let’s hope Carson Yeung isn’t going to be a Samesh Kumar in disguise. The current board, whatever you think of them, have worked tirelessly to get our club to where it stands today and we’d do well to remember that. Maybe they could’ve done more but what they have done is bring financial stability and St’Ans doesn’t look to bad either. I won’t miss David Sullivan but at the moment it’s better the devil you know isn’t it?
There is no doubt in my mind that more financial muscle than the two Davids are able or willing to offer is needed if our beloved club is ever to move from under the overcast skies that have covered our history. It has always struck me as utterly ridiculous that the club that bears the name of the the second largest city in the UK has had so little success. China holds enormous economic power and the Premier League is a successful global product. Reading between the lines I detect that Carson Yeung wants to exploit the far Eastern markets and exposure of Birmingham City to those markets and the potential fan base that comes with it; the increase in merchandising alone cannot be a bad thing. Whilst I have my reservations let’s all try and be positive eh?

I,m not sure if Carson yeung will take us in the right direction, or end up another
Kumar. I,m pleased he intends to keep Karen Brady, she has worked tirlesly for our club and proved the Blues are in her heart as well. All i know is that the Blues are in my blood, and i,ll stick by them come rain or shine. We all should. Keep the faith and who knows what can happen for us. KRO……SOTV
The present board bought stability to the Blues, when we could have gone bust. They do not have their hearts in the job; so maybe this chap will give us a decent team. He will have no hang ups about travelling from Essex etc. He must see some potential in the club. I feel the Golds and Sullivan took us as far as they wanted to take us. They bought the minimum to keep the fans soft. We are grateful to them and hope they leave us to take on the best teams. The far eastern fraternity are not the type of people to throw money after bad bets so i am hoping that we will come good this time around. Up The Blues.
Financial governance of UK football is a joke. Manchester United and Liverpool are both potentially bankrupt businesses because of the excessive borrowings of their so called megarich backers. Saddling a successful club like Manchester United is bad enough but Birmingham will never provide sufficient revenue streams to underwrite excessive borrowings which the loss making Grand Top may have in mind.
I think Manchester United will survive, I am far less confident about my beloved Blues.
What a better world it would be if Rooney was playing for Everton.
Thank god for Burnley.
Just a few quotes from various newspapers..
“Grand Top has been loss-making for each of the last four years, losing 91.8m Hong Kong dollars (£7.2m) in the year to the end of March 2009.”
“Its shares were suspended in Hong Kong ahead of the Blues takeover announcement.”
“It has taken out a £57m bridging loan to fund the takeover, which will then be paid back using the proceeds of a share offer in Hong Kong.”
Sullivan’ s acceptance of the bid displays his eagerness to get rid of Blues, but where is the promise to ensure that Mr Yeung is the right and proper person to entrust the future of Birmingham City FC. Quite frankly the board have been so damned rude to Mr Yeung I am surprised he came back for a second bite, or perhaps this is just a longer term plan to get his 29% stake back?
“Mr Yeung will submit his directors’ declaration form within the next 48 hours hoping for approval to take the reins at St Andrew’s – despite being prosecuted five years ago by the Securities and Futures Commission for failing to declare his interest in a company.”
I am really not sure about Mr Yeung, I would like to think that he is a football fanatic who will grow to love the club as much as we all do. In any event I hope that whoever is looking after Blues future investigates this bid thoroughly.
