Everton vs Blues – Brief post match thoughts
Dec 20th, 2009 | By Aylesburyblue | Category: Aylesburyblue ArticlesWell it had to end eventually but we are still unbeaten since mid October. This should be considered a point earned rather than two dropped. I’m not even going to pretend that we deserved to get anything from this game. Everton were by far the better team and on another day could have won by three or four. This was our worst performance for some time and Everton are clearly not a side that will finish in the bottom half. I think we only had shot on target all game and that was our goal. It was a good finish from Larsson after good work by Benitez. Roger Johnson was again imperious and if there is any justice should be knighted in the New Year’s honours list. The conditions were appalling but at least the Blues fans who travelled by train actually reached their destination. Fellaini must have doubled his body weight with all the rain soaked into his hair.
Best to file this one under “Forget about it” and remember that we are seventh at Christmas. Ahead of Liverpool. Let me repeat that AHEAD OF LIVERPOOL. Can’t think of a better Christmas present.

YEAHHH , AHEAD OF LIVERPOOL. Christmas dinner will taste extra good this year.
Ooh Rafa Beneath-Us, Ooh Rafa Beneath-Us, Ooh Rafa Beneath-Us!

It’s so good to see us getting some luck. I didnt think Saha was offiside being about level with him but the lino was quick with the flag. If Johnson isnt considered for the world cup squad on his form something is seriously wrong, but maybe a couple of goals would help his cause. His knee looked a bit sore today and thats a worry. Benitez was quiet and it would have been nice to have had Phillips for 20 minutes or so in an attempt to win the game. Sure Everton were the better team but we could have nicked it and a point off them is excellent. I dont think we’ve won there since on 1957. We may not get a better opportunity. These are golden days and we are enjoying them so our full reportoire of songs was aired today, even Cardiff dance. My favourite, about Fellaini, was ‘He’s got a whole sheep on his head’ – brilliant.
Watched full match on Sky N.Z. at 07.00 Monday morning. Couldn’t sleep in anticipation and was forced to sit thru half an hour of Chelsea v Hammers at 06.30 before the new All Blacks graced the plasma.
Midfield looked fazed, attack looked like it’d been force fed with too many mince pies and a few gallons of Tizer BUT thank God for the defence who were (yet again) invincible!
Roger Johnson makes our dramatically emotional attachment to Matt Upson seem ridiculously naive. This guy wears our shirt with such dignity and pride that he’d probably go on fighting for the ball while hobbling around on crutches. Let’s hope that his knee isn’t too serious.
Jerome had a bad day at the office and we lacked fluidity going forward, yet we still managed a point. As David Coleman used to say “Remarkable!”
Can’t hold on to this much luck for ever so you still need to open your sporran Alex and splash the cash. However, would we have believed 7th or 8th by Christmas? Not this ex-pat…what a way to start your week!
