Splash the Cash?
Jan 14th, 2010 | By Aylesburyblue | Category: PollsThere have been a lot of stories in recent days about bids that we have reportedly put in for big name players but some of the fees asked for are ridiculous. £10million plus for Kenwyne Jones!!!
It’s well known that prices are always inflated in January especially when your chairman tells the world that you have up to £40million to spend. Added to the fact that we are in a much better position than we could have expected to be should McLeish keep the chequebook in his pocket. On the other hand we do still have a thin squad and a few injuries would leave us down to bare bones.
So what do we do? Pay the inflated fees or wait till the summer?
In our last poll the majority thought we would finish between 11th and 14th but 12 people still thought we would be relegated.

Another striker would be nice but the fees being asked are outrageous. I think we are now pretty much safe from relegation and so would prefer to wait until the summer to really splash the cash. I would expect to get better value for money then.
Having said that, injuries and suspensions may well disrupt the present settled team and we are a bit thin. I just don’t want to see the money wasted.

I say buy 3 more players that will make a difference push on for top six and fa cup sell lots of shirts in china build up st andrews to hold at least 40000.
I have followed Blues since the 60s Barry Bridges days and we have always lacked real ambition.
United Arsenal and liverpool are not the dominant forces they once were.
Now is the time just three quality players please.

I tend to agree with sully… I think if we could get… For example mcgeady.. Janko.. + a n other… This would hopefully keep us around where were at, at the moment.. then… Come the summer… We could do some real damage.. We need to finish top half to be able to offer the players some sign of promise and potential… but defo could do with 2-3 QUALITY signings… K.R.O
The questions asked in the poll are not really the right ones. I would say thet the majority of Blues fans do not want us to pay over the odds but we all recognise that the squad needs strengthening. I mean there is no way that Kenwyne Jones or Babel are worth the figures that have been quoted. Their cost may well come down towards the end of the transfer window.
Now that we’ve signed Michel we can get away with signing a striker and another midfieder now and leave the real business until the summer. Big Eck is fully aware of what we need, let’s just trust him to bring the right players in.
