Will Chucho ever score at home?
Mar 22nd, 2010 | By Aylesburyblue | Category: PollsSince Cameron Jerome’s recent goal spree has made our last poll a little redundant I thought it was time to ask a new question.
This one features Jerome’s partner Christian Benitez. Like many others I’m a fan of the little fella due to his work rate and the goals he creates for others. However it just doesn’t seem to happen for him in front of goal and when has scored it’s not been at home. We keep hearing that goals will come but there are only four home games left for him to break his duck for the season. Maybe he is a victim of the gypsy curse.
So the latest poll question is…Will he score at home this season?
What do people think of Chuco? Is he worth a permanent deal?

Of course he’s worth a permanent deal.
Whilst he hasn’t been prolific in scoring this season, his assists have been invaluable and have won us points. Not just that, but he was a key part in our unbeaten run and when he had to be dropped through injury, we looked absolutely stagnant until his return. He’s a creative forward, he skins defences and works hard to create space for himself and others – which is something we’ve missed for a while.
He may not score this season at home, but his contribution this season as a foreign player new to the league and the English/European style of play is more than acceptable. If he was to be here next season, I could say with some confidence that he’d double this seasons tally.
Whilst the 7m asking price may be steep to some, it’s perfectly reasonable in the current climate. Especially when you consider the asking price of players like Kenwyne Jones (10-12m? No ta Brucey Bonus!) and the likely asking price for Pavlyuchenko in the Summer which will no doubt be double that of January…
I agree with Kaje. Chucho remains an asset and I think he is the sort of player who will blossom from the goal scoring viewpoint in the second season. We should definitely sign him.
KRO SOTV
Benitez started off like a runnaway train. I thought he was going to be a great asset for us. He has had bad luck in front of goal but three goals allo season is pretty useless. He would be good to keep for around 3-4 k otherwise I would send him back. Of course I want all the strikers at the Blues to be great but we cant afford to keep him if we have some decent money in the summer. I would have spent some of this money before the vaults shut. McCleash should have bought an up and coming player to help out a Victor Moses or some otherfrom the championship. If it didn’t work out then we would not have wasted much money.
Just for the record, and I’m still not sure how fellow Bluenoses get this wrong, but our manager’s name is McLeish. Not McCleish, MacLeesh or any other variation – it’s not that hard to get right!
Benitez has ‘ featured ‘ in other players goals , and his heart is in the right place, but when he’s through on goal he hasn’t got a clue , it’s straight at the keeper every time. Now I know that some celebrated strikers seem to actually get away with this ‘ tactic ‘ on a weekly basis , as it goes in yet again between the hapless goalies legs , but I’m of the stand point that only about 15% of those types of goal are actually intended ( maybe less – jammy gits ) but my point is look at the likes of Phillips ( and current superstar Rooney ) and see how often they kick the ball at anyone , let alone directly at the keeper. It’s either chipped over , or in the corner. Benitez can assist , but we need a striker , let him go back I say.
You’re asking us to compare Benitez to Rooney?
Get a life mate. What a ridiculous comment.
As Kaje said above, Benitez is a good buy for the money in the current climate.
To DLT
Of course I’m not comparing Benitez to Rooney ! ..or Phillips for that matter. My whole point was, any striker worth his salt doesn’t CONSTANTLY kick the ball at the keeper.
Let me ask you a question , What does ‘ A good buy in the current climate’ mean ?
A player can either score goals or he can’t and Benitez can’t …..in any climate.
It was known for BCFC when they bought Benitez that his goal scoring rate relative to shots on target were not that high, but they brought in him for other reasons. He is active, quick and Provides offensive flare that coming into the season the team lacked. He can score goals, and will score more next year. I have’nt seen too much quality as far as passes and through balls coming from the wings and the mids this year. The way the team was structured coming into this seasoin no one was going to score heaps of goals.
I think he is feeling the pressure just as much as anyone to perform, keep in mind he is the son of a native legend in his home country, and people from Ecuador look up to him and keep a close eye on him. Year two I hope he will be able to come back more confident, and get off on a flyer.
How would you feel if you were taken half way round the world, unable to speak the language, your family (wife and children) still in poverty stricken Ecuador, your farther had a car accident, your only compatriots contract is mutual terminated and have had to travel more miles in the last 12 months for international games than a normal person travels in a lifetime.
Its going to take you a while to settle isnt it??
He is creating numerous chances for Cammy, creating for himself and making his presence felt on the pitch.. Granted… The goals havnt come, YET.
But there is high potential there.
Give the kid a break and get behind him. He could be quality for us, or we could ship him off after 12 months and be left thinking, what if?
Cameron and Andy Pendleton , you both make very good measured points , and I have to agree that the likes of myself may have become more than a little impatient with Benitez. That’s something I’m not proud of , I’d dearly love to be proved wrong about Benitez . If McLeish has the luxury of keeping him and still bringing in an out and out striker, who knows ? I’d love to see him coming on and causing the havoc he looked capable of in his first few games.
I fancy him to get the equaliser in a 1-1 draw tomorrow.
