Terrible Results in the World Cup

Jun 15th, 2010 | By | Category: Kev's Ramblings, World Cup

I wanted to blog about the continuous run of terrible results in the World Cup 2010 so far.

It started with the opening game, with the hosts drawing with Mexico. The next terrible result was South Korea’s win over Greece. All was well until England had a 1-1 tie with the good ‘ole US of A. Sunday gave us two terrible results when Ghana beat Serbia and the Germans destroyed the Socceroos.

Have you guessed yet?

Yes I am talking about the ITV coverage! IT IS TRULY AWFUL. I can’t believe they have the next England game too!

Clive Tyldesley has to be the worse commentator on the television.

The inane constant drivel throughout the game is only relieved by the adverts, because the studio “experts” are just as bad. The BBC have Hanson, ITV have Keegan the BBC have Lineker ITV have Chiles – it says it all! The BBC have Shearer… yeah ok, they’re not perfect – however the difference in quality in the coverage between the two stations is a wide gulf.

The adverts are normally a welcome relief from the above, but not during a match when a goal is scored – as in the England game. Mind you it was only in HD. I’m told the colours of the advert were amazing though. The thing is ITV have a track record. The same thing happened in a European when they missed Gosling’s winner for Everton. They got real abuse over that, the fact that it only happened on HD prevented them from it this time. If it had happened on the standard definition transmission – it would have been interesting to see what would have happened.

The noticeable difference between the two stations is the silence. ITV insist on talking all the time, explaining everything they see whereas the BBC tend to allow the pictures do the talking, and the commentators basically just add to that.

So basically, I think ITV are poor – but unfortunately don’t have any choice but to watch their coverage!

  1. you forgot Mark Lawro at the BBC – yesterday he commented on the Japan v Cameroon game which i must admit was not the most exciting of games. But his incessant whining about the game forced me to watch the game muted!!!! I can honestly say i have never heard a bloke whine so much in my life.

I just hope in the next WC the matches can be aired simultaneously on different channels so that we can choose which commentary to suffer the least.

Ha, ha your right ITV is pretty awful but what about about Mick (snooze) McCarthy on the BBC he has got to be the most boring bloke ever!! Mind you at least you can laugh at the inane tripe that comes out of his mouth, if you can stay awake long enough that is!!

Eh Lowkey, at least Mick McCarthy can smell round corners! ;-)
