Transfer Target Update
Aug 13th, 2010 | By KevB8ll | Category: Blues News, Kev's Ramblings, Lead Article, PlayersAfter the signings of Dembele and Camoranesi this week, some new names and some old names have been linked to us.
Apparently we are looking at Craig Bellamy and Matt Derbyshire as alternatives. Not sure how reliable these stories are, but the Derbyshire story seems to be gathering pace. I doubt Bellamy would join us, he’s turned us down once and I would have thought that other sides that have a more realistic chance of a European place would have a better chance.
Our ongoing links with Babel have re-surfaced again and the story of N’Zogbia also won’t go away.
Whatever happens, we need pace in the middle of the park and 1 more striker would do us good.
What do you think? Who do you think we ought to go for?
There is still over 2 weeks to go. COME ON BLUES!

The must sign player for me is N’Zogbia. The Board need to go the extra mile to get him.
Darbyshire on loan could be a good signing, I would expect Eck to do his usual due diligence and if he fancies him then I’ll back him all the way.
Still unsure about Babel, talented player no doubt but has he got the guts and determination to succeed at Blues. It’s a big question mark for me.
Have we signed the above two that you mentioned then !
Hearing Derbyshire a lot. Season long loan. Scored about 15 in 35 ganes in Greece so might be a good shout. Babel will be all down to wages as he wont drop by much even to play each week. bellamy is 0 chance, Fulham outsiders but season loan to Celtic looks on.
I think we are in more trouble than people think- everyone thinks we are ok because of our 15 game unbeaten run last year. What we forget is the last 10-15 games was a joke and relegaton form. Surely lee bowyer is not good enough to guide us to europe and Big Eck has made it clear he is first chioce over gardner. Blues fans blame the lack of scoring to the strikers last year but it is our poor creativity and lack of pace and drive that caused this. I agree with JohnR- Nzogbia is essential because he has pace and we need a pacey right mid aswell. For me we need a very good creative mid centre which we dont really have- strike force does need a little strengthening but our strikers are good enough to score more if the service is better. A midfielder who can burst into the box and get goals but also create chances for others is what we need. Iknow these players are expensive but we do have a fair bit of mone aparently and this would be money worth spending!
We should start watching other teams progress with players talks and hijack them at the last minute. It seems we get it done to us often enough after doing all the hard work. Lets hijack Stephen Ireland while everything is up in the air!! We seem to be a team of Celts now…he would fit well…and also show we can be savvy. We seem to have been taken for a mug a lot in the past 12 months. Remember Spurs last minute price hike in January…?
Not really that sure about Derbyshire…dont know enough about him, but his record looks decent enough abroad, and we do need some attacking support. Just worried we are just going for anyone as targets have fallen away.
Totally agree with Bumpyfunk- drop 12m on ireland and they would bite our hands off!!!!
Unfortunately James, its not up to you or me…unless you have Ecks phone number…!
I went to the Mallorca game to have a word but he wasn’t even there!!
Tatts was first to write about Bellamy so Eck must have an interest or is trying for him. The only source to trust
We are desperate for a forward who has some pedigree. We wont score many with what we have at the moment. McCleash doesn’t seem to want to spend the money available. After all the top names we were after we have been let down somewhat with the targets now.
It was pretty depressing to see the line up for today’s game. Apart from Foster we have fielded last year’s team. It could be argued that this is no bad thing but in reality we over-achieved last season. It is unlikely that we will have another 12 match unbeaten run this year so with no additions I think we will have a tough fight just for survival.
Regardless of how good last season was you can’t afford to stand still in this league. I don’t wish to be a doom monger, particularly in light of the feel good factor that the new owners brought to the club, however I am concerned by the lack of action this summer. For whatever reason we have been unable to make any additions (only replacements) and we are down on numbers compared to last season’s already small squad. I can’t beleive that players would prefer to join West Ham or Fulham over us but so it seems. Are we really such an unattractive option? If that is really the case then we are really going to struggle to improve the team.
As good as Carr was last season we desperately need two full backs. I’m amazed that Ridgewell was again chosen at left back. I was under the impression that Murphy had been playing well in pre-season. We are also crying out for at least one prolific striker and a pacey & creative midfieler. So what exactly is the problem ? Are we finding out that the promises of £40m were in fact empty. That would come as no surprise for Blues fans but I was really hoping for better this time. I can’t understand why we haven’t met Palace’s valuation of Clyne. I haven’t personally seen him play but if he is so well thought of then surely a right back with a bright future is worth £3m.
It’s time for the owners to stump up the cash to build on the confidence and good feeling of last season. My requirements would be Konchesky, Clyne, Nzogbia and a stiker (Bellamy or Keane if they would come). We’re going to be left behind if we’re not careful.
