The Blues Board
Sep 1st, 2010 | By KevB8ll | Category: Blues News, Kev's Ramblings, Lead Article, PlayersWell now the dust has settled after yesterday’s events, I’ve been thinking about some of the comments that have recently been leveled at the board on various forums, to be honest including ours.
When Carson Yeung took over running the club from the previous lot, he promised money for transfers. Unfortunately he of course gave the figure away and that has probably hampered us with transfers up to now. However the board has maintained that they WOULD fund buying players and this was confirmed at the fans forums I went to last season.
There have been a few people who have actually accused the board of broken promises, especially in relation to transfers. I just don’t get that, as far as I see it – we’ve come on leaps and bounds since we got took over. I’m not saying that there have been criticisms at the same intensity as the last board had, but there has been the signs of fans becoming more uneasy with things.
The club appears to be more open and determined to do things correctly. The transfer market is always fraught with problems, we have been close to players with some falling through because either the player didn’t want to come, got a better offer or – well, fell asleep!
I am pleased that after yesterday that some of the people who were asking questions about the board delivering, have been praising them for the support they have given Alex McLeish – by signing three good players yesterday. Don’t forget that we had already signed Ben Foster and Matt Derbyshire too, as well as Valles.
So well done the board, let’s hope that the players settle in quickly and we can push on to become an established Premier League side, and that the beginning of uneasiness among fans has no need to continue.

and zigic?
good article, yes the board seem to be pulling out all the stops. By the way its taken over not took over. up the blues
I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT THESE OWNERS ARE GENUINE AND SINCERE THOUGH LOOKING BACK THEY DID MAKE A MISTAKE BY ANNOUNCING HOW MUCH WE HAD TO SPEND. CARSON YEUNG SEEMS MORE IN TOUCH WITH THE CLUB AND FANS NEEDS AND IS WILLING TO LISTEN AND LEARN TO WHAT THE SUPPORTERS HAVE TO SAY. HE SEEMS DETERMINED TO MOVE THE CLUB FORWARD WITH THE CHINESE ADVENTURE AND INVESTMENT. ALL THIS CAN ONLY MEAN A RECIPE FOR SUCCESS.
Well done to the board and manager. The signing of Hleb was amazing, I couldn’t imagine that happening this time last year.
Another great article, Kev, and I think we can all forgive you for one small grammatical error, when you consider that comments from Blues fans I have read on other websites contain no capital letters together with abysmal grammar and spelling!!
I don’t think any of the players we have signed this summer would have agreed to come if they didn’t realise they were joining a club that is determined to make further progress and not just be one of the also-rans. I’m delighted to see players of quality putting pen to paper to enhance their opportunities at international level (Foster) or simply because the club are determined to secure their services (Hleb). I’d also like to think that they all saw the club being run properly and professionally, from Board level downwards. Compare this with the state the club was in when the Kumars were in charge. In the middle of it all, I think, is Alex McLeish, who deserves the highest praise. His character and sense, reflected in comments he makes, convinces me that we have an outstanding man at the helm. My opinion is shared by a man I know who played for Blues in the 1970′s, when McLeish was appointed he told me that it was one of the best managers they could wish for. Today, that opinion is shared by many Blues fans. How often do we read ‘In Eck We Trust’?
I cannot think of many other times when I’ve had such an optimistic feeling about our club. I hope that the new signings all help to further our progress in The Premier League which will then in turn generate more business and increase profits. In the meantime, across the Expressway, the silence is deafening.
KRO. SOTV.
I can make lot of grammatical error . Have no problem with that. Good article , Kev. Yesterday with all good new signings will be a historic day for Blues. Hleb want to play for us, and not Liverpool. That sounds good in my ears.
Thank you for the kind comments guys. I genuinely don’t mind people pointing out errors, hopefully it will help me to improve as a blogger.
