Blues v Man City Brief Preview

Tonight we return to the Premier League after a couple of successful cup matches. In case you didn’t know, we won our Semi-Final against West Ham and have made it to the final of the Carling Cup against Arsenal at the end of February. (Well you never know, someone MAY have missed it!)

Last Saturday, was one of the most enjoyable games of football I’ve seen for ages at St Andrews when we came back from 2-0 down to beat the Sky Blues 3-2. Lots of attacking football and goals – great fun.

Tonight will be tough though. Man City are a very good side. They have had some excellent results in the league and can score goals from all over the place. We will need to be at our best to get any sort of positive result tonight.

I believe that Micah Richards is out – but otherwise a pretty full strength squad for them.

Our situation is similar. Dann, Valles and McFadden the long term injured. The team tonight will be very different from Saturday. We will probably return the most of the side that started in a mauling by the other Manchester club. However hopefully Martins will pass a late fitness test and partner either Jerome, or my preference Zigic up front. Jiranek should keep his place too as he has looked good in the last couple of games meaning that Davies will probably be on the bench.

Ziggy is beginning to settle in, and although he can be all arms and legs, he is a real irritant in the opposing box. I think we will start to see much better from him as the season progresses.

We remained out of the bottom 3 last night as results went for us, as long as we match Wolves result – we will stay out of it tonight too – however we do have games in hand over the teams around us.

I’d take a point from tonight, but I think the power and pace of City’s forward line will be a little too much for us. I’m going 1-2, (but will be very happy to be wrong!)

  1. I hope that we still can produce goals as we did in the cup’s few days ago , and it will also be very interesting to see if Zigic and Martins can make it together . And I agree with Kev’s sum up from the Coventry game . Very enjoyable . COYB&KRO

  2. Could have sworn you’d have gone 1-1 kev. Don’t know why. That’s my prediction anyway. I reckon Martins will have to make do with the bench as per the norm for many new signings. Give Zigic and Jerome one more ‘roll of the dice’ before Martins takes his predicted automatic starting spot… As for the Cup Final, I just hope Arsenal don’t take the match as seriously as we do! Hope you get to go Kev. Be great to have as many real fans as possible there, less corporate free rides. Fingers crossed for ya – me too! Keep right on.
