He has received loads of stick since arriving at the club, however he has popped up with important goals. Quarter final of the Carling Cup v Villa, the 1st in the final v Arsenal and the odd league goal when we’ve needed it – but tonight the big lump just went mad!
There have been signs of improvement for the big man this season. He has shown more composure with his feet, he has won headers and made a complete nuisance of himself in the box – but tonight it all came together.
However, things could have been so different. Leeds started the game like a team possessed. They had 3 clear cut chances in the opening minutes and were unfortunate not to score. However on 20 minutes they got what they deserved, when McCormack put Leeds 1 up.
This sprung Blues into life and they started to take charge and deserved to be level when Zigic equalised on the half hour. However, no one in that ground had any idea of what would happen in the 2nd half. At half time it seemed a finely balanced game which could have gone either way, although – if anything – Leeds were the better side.
The 2nd started like the first with Leeds making the early play, however everything changed when the big man completed his hatrick in 3 minutes. His 2nd came on the hour and 3 minutes later made it 3-1. Leeds were reeling and Blues put the game beyond them when Zigic completed his double brace, his hatrick plus 1 on the 68th minute. Twitter went ballistic and #Zigic is now trending!
Blues saw out the remainder of the game easily and with West Ham getting beaten by Ipswich and Southampton drawing, means that Blues move up to 4th just 5 points behind Southampton (2nd) with a game in hand AND the South Coast side are the next visitors to St Andrews!
Blues’ goal difference is now +19 just 1 behind Southampton and we’ve now scored 20 goals in our last 6 games.
WE’RE BIRMINGHAM CITY, WE’LL SCORE WHEN WE WANT!
This side just don’t know how to lose so it seems, when you think we’ve been playing 2 matches a week most weeks – our achievement so far has been amazing. CH surely has to get January’s Manager of the Month – and hopefully we will continue on our run this time rather than having a dip like we did last time he won it!
