Firstly a big up to all who traveled to the game today, it looked freezing on the TV!
The weather spoilt the game, and I really thought it would get called off at half time. In case you missed the key action, I was able to get hold of some action shots.
Well it wasn’t a great spectacle, partly because I couldn’t see a great deal! Southampton came to St Andrews the league’s top scorers and managed to go a full 90 minutes without a single shot on goal. To be fair, they did have a lot of possession, however we never looked like conceding except for one chance Billy Sharp had in the 2nd where in front of goal, completely mis-hit the ball.
In the first half, N’Daw had a great chance to score when he saw his header go just wide and King had a shot tipped round the post.
Beside that there wasn’t a great deal of chances. In the 2nd the ref waved away claims of a Blues penalty. Mutch was taken out but the ref deemed it not to be a foul. I thought otherwise, although the defender got the ball his challenge was pretty reckless in those conditions and should have been punished. It would however been harsh on Southampton who probably deserved a point. It does however reflect badly on Phil Dowd who has to be one of the worse referees on the circuit. He proved this by sending off the Southampton defender Fox for a 2nd yellow which was never a foul. YOU BUFFOON Dowd.
So we are 5th going into our game in hand at home to Portsmouth on Tuesday. A win of any sort will take us up to 3rd on the same points as Cardiff who lost at home today – but above them on goal difference. We will be 2 points behind Southampton with 18 games to go. Plenty of time to capture 2nd place!
Some positives, we didn’t give up despite the very poor weather and our defence looked very accomplished, despite the poor weather. Oh and we’re still unbeaten at St Andrews and since Christmas.
Bring on Pompey.
