Alex Govan

The club site has reported that Alex Govan has died aged 86. Alex was the person who introduced “Keep Right On” to the club.

Alex joined Blues from Plymouth Argyle. He had appeared 110 times for the Pilgrims. He scored 8 times in his first season for Blues, including on his debut. He went on to make 165 appearances scoring just over 50 goals in the old outside left position. (Ask your grandads!) Apparently he was a terrace favourite.

He played in the successful 1950’s side which saw Blues win the old second division title and an FA cup final appearance. That side also finished 6th in the top flight.

I met Alex once and he was a lovely man.

RIP.
