Tomorrow sees Blues travel to Yorkshire to take on Premier League side Huddersfield in the cup. Over the last couple of months, Blues have started to show improvement, if not winning games, certainly looking more solid and playing better football. Actually looking more like a team. The fact that we have kept a consistent side over the last few games, has really helped to build that. For me that is really satisfying, because in recent time, the side have looked like they had never met let alone played together before!
I guess the obvious question is will Cotterill keep the same side as he did for the 3rd round, or will he change it with a vital game against Sunderland on the horizon? Other outlets are indicating that he will change things, and personally I think that’s sensible. We aren’t going to win the cup, and although a run would be great – staying up has to be our priority. I would prefer him to give some youngsters a go.
Of course Huddersfield could take exactly the same approach, and in fact could make even more changes than we may. Their recent results haven’t been great, and the prize of staying in the top flight must be a huge motivator to them, especially after how long it took for them to return to that level. This of course COULD help us therefore. I notice that Lawro has got it down as a draw and Blues winning a replay. I would have thought that neither team wants a replay though!
So what about teams for Saturday. To be honest I really don’t know. I notice that Gardner is available again so he may feature. I would doubt he will risk Adams which means that Gallagher will probably keep his place as our lone striker again. I’d have thought that he will play Jota instead of Mags and it is probable that Morrison will get a game, but after that I don’t know. It will definitely be interesting to see which youngsters get a go, and be able to evaluate their possible future contribution to the club.

Whatever happens, Tuesday is far more important as we try to maintain our Championship status. Both ourselves and Sunderland have picked up a few results recently, so I reckon it will be a tight affair with probably a result decided by the odd goal. Our results against those around us are vital for us to move up the table. and for that reason, a win in that game will be huge. It is likely if we do win, we will be out of the bottom 3 for the first time for ages. It is all about those little targets, get out of the bottom 3, maintain that position, then hopefully start to pull away.
Anyway what about predictions? Despite Lawro’s positivism, I can’t see anything other than a home win. I’ll go 3-1. Despite that we will have great support there, as we have sold out our away allocation again.
In regard to Tuesday and our league game against Sunderland, I am going for a 1-0 win for us.
