Stoke City v Blues Post Match Thoughts

This isn’t going to be a huge blog because I wasn’t there, and only covered the match via SSN. So more of some thoughts and comments because of the result.

Just a brief paragraph about the game itself though. I have obviously seen the brief highlights on TV. The goal was a really well taken one. Maghoma’s ball through for Juke to cross was a great one and Che was in the right place at the right time to put the ball away. The traveling fans also game a great account of themselves.

We did appear to ride our luck as there looked like there were a couple of handballs. Obviously if they went against us, we’d be upset – but the truth is we HAVE had them go against us, so it’s about time some went for us. Although, I reckon Gardner should give Camp a few tips. 😉 While I’m talking about Camp, I have seen some people be critical about him, but he can’t be doing too bad when our conceding column as reduced!

Just a few thoughts. Firstly after the start of the season where we weren’t getting the results we should have done for our performances, we have now gone 9 games without defeat and won at Stoke and Leeds, two teams who were tipped for promotion at the start of the season.

Secondly we have only conceded 3 goals in the last six games, Harlee Dean has bought a stability and strength to the back four.

Thirdly Garry Monk succeeded where previous managers failed, beating a Rowett side. To rub it in, the three players who made and scored the goal, were Rowett signings when he was at St Andrews!

Fourthly Juke and Che seem to now be finding a partnership. According to Who Scored, Juke is the leading rated Championship player with an over all rating of 7.85. He has 6 goals and 3 assists. Che has 4 goals.

It’s amazing what a few decent results can do. The feeling about things is more positive. I guess the one potential fly in the ointment is either injuries or suspensions. We don’t have the depth of squad that other sides have – but we can’t worry about that. Hopefully we can continue the run with our next two homes games staring on Tuesday against Reading then Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

  1. Hi regarding the handballs The first one was ball to hand from 2 yards so the ref IMO got that righ. Ttlhe handball by Adams would have been a pen if the ref had not already blown for a Blues free kick after Crouch’s high foot. It wasn’t the best of games we looked leggy at times and are passing was off in the first half but the second half we improved and looked the better team. Over all you have to be happy with the result KRO.
