Fred Pickering has died according to the Blues website.A great centre forward and one of my early heroes, who was eventually replaced by Bob Latchford. Never clear to me why Everton let him go. Remember him hitting the post in that semi final against the Albion. So near and so far away. Never met him but a mate (an Evertonian) worked for Blackburn Council and saw him regularly at Ewood. Really nice guy apparently.RIP Fred.

Sad to hear of the passing of Fred Pickering, like Merseypete says he was one of St Andrews favourite sons a skilful but no nonsense centre forward that put himself about and always gave 100%. The most lasting memory I have of him was the goal he scored in one of the later rounds FA Cup against Chelsea, what a match 60,000 plus crammed into St Andrews.
RIP Fred :rip
